==Plot== Set in 1973, the film follows a diverse team of scientists, soldiers, and adventurers who are brought together to explore an uncharted island in the Pacific Ocean. The expedition is organized by Bill Randa (John Goodman), a government official from the secret organization Monarch, who recruits tracker James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) and photojournalist Mason Weaver (Brie Larson) to join the team. They are escorted by a military unit led by Lieutenant Colonel Preston Packard (Samuel L. Jackson). Upon arriving at Skull Island, the group is immediately attacked by Kong, a massive ape of colossal proportions, who destroys their helicopter fleet. Separated and scattered across the island, the survivors must make their way to an extraction point while contending with the island's many dangerous creatures, known as Skullcrawlers. As the group encounters the island's native Iwi people and a stranded World War II pilot named Hank Marlow (John C. Reilly), they begin to understand that Kong is not merely a monster โ he is the island's guardian, protecting it from the Skullcrawlers that lurk beneath the surface. Packard, consumed by vengeance after losing men in the attack, becomes obsessed with destroying Kong, putting him at odds with the rest of the group. Conrad and Weaver, having come to understand Kong's true nature, race to prevent Packard from awakening the largest Skullcrawler and triggering a catastrophe. Kong ultimately defeats the creature and the survivors are rescued, while a post-credits scene hints at the existence of other massive creatures including Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah.
