As the group encounters the island's native Iwi people and a stranded World War II pilot named Hank Marlow (John C. Packard, consumed by vengeance after losing men in the attack, becomes obsessed with destroying Kong, putting him at odds with the rest of the group. Development of the film began following the success of the 2014 [[Godzilla]] film, which launched [[Legendary Entertainment|Legendary]]'s [[MonsterVerse]]. [[Jordan Vogt-Roberts]], known primarily for his independent film ''The Kings of Summer'' (2013), was selected to direct.
